Hot Hexy Mess!

It has been a few weeks since I have blogged about anything!  I am sorry about that!  As you know my receptionist/biller was ill, and she still has  not returned to work and it has been 5 or 6 weeks now!
Unfortunately, she spent 3 weeks in the hospital for a ruptured appendix!  I am thankful she is home now and recovering.  I have learned a lot about billing in her absence and have come to appreciate her more as I realize how effortlessly she did this job for me and my colleagues.

In the meantime, I have been working on my Hexy Ocean quilt.  I have been totting it around with me, sewing hexies every spare moment I have.  I was hoping it would be done in time for Father's Day, but I have failed to meet that deadline.  :(

Let me show you why I failed.

First up, Gizmo.... my paper shredding cat.... decided my hexies would be fun to chew on!

So I had to pick out these and other hexies, sew up the cross seams that were cut in the process, and reattach 5 new hexies!

Secondly....

Can you see the problem?
How about a closer look??

Still not sure... we will get closer.

BINGO!  RED WINE SPILLED ALL OVER MY HEXIES!!!!

I had to rip them out and resew in these new ones. Which really brought a grinding stop to my obsessiveness about  getting this project done!

This next picture is not that great, but I wanted to give you glimpse of the over all quilt on my queen size bed.

It is a giant puzzle and so much fun to play with.  It really makes me long for a design wall!

Have a wonderful week everyone!

Friday's Logic - A Butterfly and a Whale

In April, I was Queen Bee of Get Your Hex On!
My hive mates made some fabulous hexagon blocks for me!!

For May, Miss Lisa is Queen Bee and she sent out the pattern and fabric for us to make butterflies for her.
I received 2 packages:  the first with my blue block, and the second with her butterfly fabric, plus the remaining blue fabric I sent out that weren't used.

My life at work is still very stressful without my office manager, but I think I have a handle on the paperwork.  This week, I wanted to have a quiet, peaceful project to work on when I found myself with a few extra minutes, so I brought the hexies to work.  There is something very soothing about hand work!

TA-DAH!!

This blue is the most amazing blue I've seen in solids for a long time!
How about that inner fabric?!?!
 Its perfect for a butterfly!

Unfortunately, she is missing a bit of her wing!
I looked all over for the missing piece.
I searched in the baggy with my spare blue fabric and hexy shapes.

I found a stowaway!

Is it logical to think Mr. Whale became so hungry on his flight to Texas that he nibbled on Miss Butterfly???

Thank you Lisa for this wonderful surprise hexy!!!

Remember My "Control that Wonk" quilt???

I thought I would re-post the Fort Worth Modern Quilt Guild's blog that has all the photos from the Wonky Paintchip Challenge Reveal.

Of course its a good thing I lost those 10 pounds because the photo of me is horrific!!!!
I'm hoping it is just because I was laughing and tipping my head backwards.
Remind me to "pose" for all future Show and Share photos!

Productive weekend!

What a 3 day weekend it was for me!

I started out Friday working on my mugrug for the swap my guild is doing with the Las Vegas Modern Quilt Guild!

All those tiny pieces... Arthur was supervising the placement of each one.

Merlin was certainly not going to let his brother get all the credit, so he lent me a tail and helped me press!
After this I was stuck!  How to quilt it??!?!?!?  I was at a loss.  I then put out an SOS on Instagram and got some wonderful ideas from my bloggy friends.

As recommended by LeeAnn over at She Can Quilt, I put in it in a ziplock bag drew some ideas.  I then put it in my purse and went out for lunch with a new friend to get her input!

Lunch, margaritas, fabric shopping and a few hours later...

All done!

I love it so much, it was hard to turn it in for the swap!

Saturday, I turned my attention to bee blocks and charity quilts!
I don't have pics of the bee blocks yet, another post.

My guild is making "NapMats" for the local YWCA's daycare.

I ordered Moda's "Oink-a Doodle-Moo", "Apple Jack", and "Bungle Jungle", plus Riley Blake's "Cruiser Boulevard" from the Fat Quarter Shop expecially for these "NapMats".

I took an idea from Ashley at Film in the Fridge, added 3 different Kona browns to represent ground/dirt of a Farm and came up with this 26' x 38" quilt.

On Sunday, I cut up the 2 yards of fabric for the Over the Rainbow Charm Swap.
Since I was in the swing of making 5 inch charms I decided to keep cutting some Denyse Schmidt for my second charity "NapMat".

Since it was 91 degrees on Sunday, after all this cutting and some yard work, we went over to the mother in law's and hit the pool!

When I came home I whipped up the second quilt!

Merlin, above, found the work to be tiring.
But then, below, he decided this tiresome work made him thirsty!

Below is the second quilt and OH MY!!!
It turned out so stinking cute!  I want to keep it!!!

I hope this week turns out as productive as the weekend!
Have a wonderful week!
